Prescription Drug Program and Rehab

You have been through detox. You’ve been through the rehab center. You’ve gotten back out and are ready to start your life anew. The rehab center has set you up with a good outpatient program or perhaps you have selected one by doing a little leg work of your own.

You have even done some research on your own, but you are not sure what to expect when you go to the first drug treatment program meeting.The goal of many group drug treatment programs is to let the recovering addict know that he is not the only one who has faced this program. The most popular group, Alcoholic Anonymous, provides a ready framework from which you can start to rebuild your life. While some disagree that the group needs to include a higher power in its methods, it is a good starting point because a person who starts on the twelve steps has given up his power to alcohol or some other addictive substance.

But the important thing to remember is that no one who goes to the meetings is there to judge anyone else. There may be some inappropriate proselytization that goes on after AA meetings, but the other attendees are free to ignore or respond to the missionary efforts of someone else appropriately. It is also important to remember that everyone is there because he is going or has gone through the same struggle that you face now.

No addiction treatment program advocates that a patient or participant is going to see a magic cure of their addiction. In fact, even after the person cleans up or becomes sober, the members still introduce themselves as addicts or alcoholics. What a drug treatment program provides is a support network and a way to help you get bak on the wagon once you’ve fallen off of it.
