When someone you love suffers from drug abuse, it can be so painful to watch. It is literally heartbreaking to watch them lose their lives to drugs this way to drug abuse. One way you can help save their life is to do an informal intervention.

By doing an informal intervention, you are speaking up and showing the person just how much you care about them and that you are concerned about their drug use. This action could really help to save their life! When speaking to the person, stick to the facts. Don’t get emotional about what you say; just let the facts speak for themselves. If they got high and ruined a family event – tell them exactly what they did to ruin the family event. Be specific and exacting. Let the facts tell the story. Stay calm and don’t get overemotional. The more facts you can share with them, the more helpful you will be.

Always share this information with them in a way that shows that you are concerned about them. That you care about their welfare. That you want them to be healthy and safe. You want them to stop abusing drugs. Talk in a caring and supportive way. Show that you are determined to stay in their lives and support them as they make changes during this time. Facing drug addiction can be hard and scary for just about anyone.

Some drug addicts will respond with shame and tears. Others will respond with anger and frustration. Others will respond with denial and say they really don’t use drugs that often. Others still may agree with everything that you say, and then just go ahead and do what they want to do. But it is important that you speak up because you could help save their life.
