Like all other states of the American mainland, even Virginia is suffering from a methamphetamine addiction. In the last ten years, the incidences of people addicted to methamphetamine in Virginia and those seeking admissions to meth rehabs for the same are steadily rising.
This is mainly because of a two-pronged attack. Methamphetamine is easily available within Virginia because of local as well as sources from outside the state. Trafficking has been analyzed to be a major culprit in bringing vast amounts of the drug within the state, but there are also several clandestinely operating labs in the state that are producing both methamphetamine and a more refined version of the substance known as crystal meth, or ice.Today, the major areas of methamphetamine addiction in Virginia are the areas near the West Virginia border and the area of the Shenandoah Valley. These areas are also badly hit by an influx of methamphetamine from unscrupulous drug traffickers from Mexico and other southern countries. The demographics indicate that the highest number of users of methamphetamine and crystal meth is younger people belonging to the age group of 18 to 25 years. These are also the people who land up in the meth rehab centers of Virginia most prominently.
However, as of now, Virginia is quite low from the national average as regards meth addiction. While nationally, there are 56 people in every hundred thousand who seek methamphetamine treatment, there are only 4 people in every hundred thousand who seek methamphetamine treatment in Virginia. Even so, the problem is indeed growing, and there are many more users of methamphetamine in Virginia who do not seek treatment at rehab centers. Taking those into account, it can be understood that the problem of meth addiction in Virginia is much greater than it appears in the statistics.
